Build a gear list around the trip

Start with the destination, dates, trip length and activities. Check current site rules, weather and facility information through the relevant park or campground before choosing equipment. Mark anything that still needs confirmation.

Group the list by use, such as shelter, clothing, cooking and personal items. Add quantities and note whether each item is packed, borrowed or still needed. Include equipment that fits the group’s needs and the conditions described by the official sources.

Review the list before departure and again when packing. After returning, note what was useful, what stayed unused and what needs maintenance. Update the next list from those observations rather than copying it unchanged.
